Teaching art to both children and adults is one of my strengths and joys. I offer small group classes for adults as well as private lessons for adults and children (middle school age and older).

The adult painters I work with use a variety of media: acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel and other drawing media. There is a wide variety of subject matter and style being explored in my studio, and the appreciation of individuality of expression and the search for individual solutions are hallmarks of my experienced approach to teaching art. Some of the painters who work in my studio are recent beginners, while others have had years of experience, and they all work side by side. The atmosphere is supportive, non-competitive and friendly. Painters range in age from 40’s to 90’s, and there is no jurying for inclusion in painting classes. Some painters work on commissioned projects, or prepare for their upcoming exhibits, while others paint purely for pleasure, learning and fulfillment.

Mutual engagement in the creative process provides an impressive bond between people who embark on comparable visual journeys and challenges. In the spirit of community, painters meet periodically for an ARTALK, in order to discuss contemporary issues in art, and to share their work with each other. We have also exhibited our work together, as a studio, in group shows.

I would be glad to schedule a mutually convenient time to meet with you at my Westport studio, to share your work with me and to get a feel for the studio. Please email me at leona@leonafrank.com.

”Painting classes with Leona are a pleasure. I have been studying here for over a year and have learned many new techniques in both oil on canvas and oil pastels. I began in pursuit of a hobby and am now immersed in learning a skill. Her studio is bright and sunny and filled with happy students. I highly recommend taking a class with Leona to anyone looking for excellent instruction in a no pressure environment.” —Jennifer K.
